The Blind Tasting 2 – the wines revealed

All three wines for the blind tasting were from Austria. The perception of Austrian wines is still tied to Blue Nun and Black Label – those sweet Germanic wines that have given the region a bad wrap. However, for wines to go with food, you’d be hard pushed to find varieties more interesting.

White wine from Austria is easy and reliable, red wine is a little harder. Some of it frankly doesn’t come up to the mark – often tending to be quite thin and light.

Austrian wines go especially well with Indian food – where a Gewurztraminer can be too sickly sweet if from a weird producer.

Get stuck into Austria – particularly the whites. Come and find me and hit me or steal my wristwatch if you’re disappointed.
