Lambrusco 2010

By in Tasting, The Butler Wine-Show

Last week I had the misfortune to be on the Sussex Campus when the protests were happening over tuition fees, so I saw the clash of placard and police.

We wryly observed that the student of the future will have to pick their grog more carefully – no more P Diddy Cristal Champagne and back to the Thunderbird.

Cameraman remarked that it was the sparkling dry red wine Lambrusco that was bought out at his student digs when a girl needed to be impressed. Its a sparkle that has an unfair press and indeed one wine called Concerto has won a prize as champion sparkling wine in the recent International Wine Challenge.

Its a good bottle to keep in the fridge: when you get back from the pub and want to keep going it’s an uplifting wine but quite light in alcohol so it wont be too regrettable in the morning.

Give it a go – I guarantee it will be hugely popular again in 12 months so get ahead of the trend.
