Christmas Lunch (Round 1): Sherry

By in The Butler Wine-Show

Here I am dressed as an ASBO gnome to bring the first of three programmes about what to drink on Christmas Day.

The answer is everything. But if you want to be more refined, after a compulsory trip to the pub, its traditional to hook up with Sherry.

Sherry has got bad connotations because of the muck your nan used to sip from the same bottle year after year with sugar crystals forming round the rim.

Sherry is ace. I keep expecting it to make a big comeback – it’s threatening so maybe in the New Year. Get ahead of the trend: you have two choices, Dry and Sweet. The former ideal for the start of the meal and the latter to go with the Christmas Pudding.

Here I pick out some top producers in both camps – I can’t recommend them enough, they will frame your feast perfectly.
