When you start drinking wine, you tend to like bigger, obvious flavours, so work on trying to describe different, more complex wines. Try getting wines from places you don’t normally buy from – like Austria, Hungary or grapes you don’t know from Italy.
Basset is adamant that we relax about wine and not get too up ourselves and become a wine bore.
He says its like Jamie Oliver who talks in recipes about using “knobs”, “splashes” and “chunks” rather than precise weights and measurements.
