Unsurprisingly when they found out we were off to meet World Sommelier Gerard Basset, those in the know wanted to know who the top-drawer UK hotel chain, Hotel Du Vin came to be. You see, Basset was a founder.
He talks about his experience at the hotel Chewton Glen where he was sommelier, and worked with co-founder of Du Vin Robin Hutson who was hotel MD.
So off they went in 1994 to find money and grow ideas and a brand. And man did he learn some lessons!
