Praise Be! Wine with Easter chocolate

By in Tasting, The Butler Wine-Show

It’s nearly Easter which means the run of bank holidays which will test your liver, wallet and patience.

First up Easter when people steal children’s chocolate.

Matching wine with chocolate is hard, as the latter clogs up the tasting pores in your gums as it melts. Get a god chocolate for a start and swig some of these with it.

First up is a sweet wine from Alois Kracher in Austria. Lovely stuff after dinner.

Then, a real favourite with everyone who tries it, but an Italian concoction that is hard to find and in real danger of becoming extinct.

Then what is sometimes referred to as Sticky Toffee Pudding Wine – Pedro Ximenez. A great alternative to chocolate if you like your sweets in liquid form. Native to Spain this is a great example from Australia.

Finally, as any good pirate will tell you, the best match for chocolate is rum. And Trois Riveriers is a fantastic example, the best we’ve tried in years.

Cameraman prefers a Pirates Pistol rum – both are behind the bar at the St James’ tavern in Brighton’s Kemp Town – a mecca for rum drinkers (if that’s not too wrong an analogy). Seek it and this rum out.
